This Book was responsible for the Spark of inspiration that has brought so much fulfillment and discovery. Anyone going into college for Industrial design, Architecture , Environmental studies or sustainable technologies. This would be a powerful life changing collection of wisdom to read before you start college. The way Bucky writes is for all to understand, He left a wealth of knowledge behind for us, so many solutions to today’s challenges. Solutions through practical design I guarantee his words will speak to you.
Complicated concepts explained simplistically and poetically. His perspective on humanity was unique and his dedication to helping all humanity in the shortest amount of time was what he dedicated his life to at the age of 32.
I took a journey through time, to a world before electricity and automobiles, to the year of 1885. Through Bucky’s eyes you can see the rather fast advancement of humans. A very fast major invention curve has shifted us in the last 120 years. science and technology have now created almost everything that you would see in science fiction and comic books from the 1950’s . We now have an amalgamation of a Dicktracy watch, and a tricorder, in the palm of our hands. Devices can generate a birds of view of where you are on Planet earth, you can access all the earth and Outer Space, the Sun and Galaxy through it. Plus a 24 hour portal to All of Humans accumulated Knowledge and lessons from all of recorded time. It can play Music from all over the world current and recorded! It can now translate languages. It dissolves all borders and opens all minds connects us all . It allows us to have artificial telepathic communications with each other. I could get more technical. but My point is the internet is a very important tool and I’m trying to use it as effectively as possible. I find myself thinking like Bucky…..

Biomimicry : fabricating like clay wasps, or ants We can now build “homes” structures to reside in using spherical trigonometry applied engineering and streamline manufacturing processes. Geodesic structures can be produced in a very short amount of time and with less materials than our traditional ” Boxed in dwelling.”

A little history of my path to creation. I have been in Love with this highly efficient design since 2005 . The simplicity and Genius of the Spherical division, mathematically elegant has sparked me to build these structures and fabricate a model and working prototypes and finally functional dwellings.
When I first created my greenhouse prototype of a truncated Icosahedron.
I use found the Dihedral angles and Made a prototype with some 2′ x 3′ and my table saw. “tuning” the angle of the table saw blade was Key in getting the resulting parts to fit together as precise as possible. It Worked!
So I used those angles to model it in Solidworks in 2007 and was learning the program at the same time I was attempting to model some basic and complex shapes. I had some success finally, but lost my use of Solidworks and the ability to model due to a laptop Malfunction. It was a great step forward and I would Pick back up on the trail later….
In 2017 I was introduced to Autodesk’s Fusion 360! A super powerful and robust free cloud based 3D modeling program!! Working with this program is like dancing with precision. This program is very intuitive to learn and has a HUGE Community and lot of YouTube instructional videos to help you get started. Then it’s up to you to practice and experiment . This program has so many capabilities for producing precision parts and they keep improving it! You can even generate G code for CNC machines and .Stl files to integrate with 3D printers and .OBJ files for bringing theses models into the Virtual environment like UNITY 3D.
60 Parts will create a sphere that is 14.5″ diameter , Its circle Windows are approximately 3″ dia.

The Model you see here was printed on a Prusa MK3 With a White PLA. 2-3 perimeters thick.
plus infill , they turn out beautiful!
I did not use “support material” in effort to speed up the print time and it worked! With Proper part orientation and a Properly calibrated your 3D printer will create Super strong spherical models.
